People are unreliable. Let's just get it out there. Even your closest friends and family can let you down- consistently. It makes you appreciate your horse: He's always there for you, waiting for you every day, loving on you. You'll hear a lot of horse owners talk about the 'horse scent', how even after a rough day you can run to your horse and bury your head in their mane and suddenly everything is back to normal, maybe even better. So show him that. Show him how much you care, how much you love him. And show others, too! It doesn't matter if they're horse people or not. When you really love your horse, they will see it in you.
Don't give up on your horse, even when it feels like no one else cares. Because they do.
I had been planning a horse show at my Uncle's ranch for several weeks when I learned that my grandpa, my most anticipated guest and my horse's actual owner, was going to be out of town that weekend. I was upset, and I felt like maybe no one cared about this show after all. Was I wasting everyone's time? But then I went riding, I felt my horse beneath me, and suddenly everything was right. And I made sure Muffin felt it too.
